Buhari speaks on zoning in his cabinet

The Presidency on Friday said that President Muhammadu Buhari would not short-change any part of the country on account of the voting pattern in the March 28 presidential election. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said this in an interview with Saturday PUNCH in Abuja. He stated that contrary to the news making the rounds on a statement made by the President in the United States, no part of the country would be denied of the dividends of democracy. But the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, advised the President against neglecting any part of the country, no matter how insignificant the contribution of such area to his victory. In a move that's like Bring Your Kid to Work Day but actually interesting, Angelina Jolie has announced that she and 13-year-old Maddox will be making a Netflix Original Film together. Casual. According to Vanity Fair, the movie will be an adaptation of First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, the memoir of human rights activist Loung Ung. "I was deeply affected by Loung's book," Jolie said in the press release. "It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son's homeland. It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I'm honored to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy. YENAGOA– LEADER of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, MEND, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, explained, yesterday, that he summoned a meeting of the militant group in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, because of the overpowering pressure mounted on him and other MEND leaders by ex-agitators and other beneficiaries of the Amnesty Programme. Presidency corrects report of bomb plot of Osinbajo's house

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, on Thursday night denied report that the Federal Government has uncovered plans by Boko Haram to bomb the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s house. He said in a statement that there was typographical error in the talking point circulated to journalists at the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting. According to him, the aspect of ‘house of the vice president’ in the talking point should have read ‘houses of VIPs’. Spain raised the minimum age for marriage from 14 to 16 on Thursday, in a reform that brings the law in line with the new age of consent. The minimum age for marriage in exceptional cases, which require the consent of a judge, has been raised from 14 to 16, though the general rule is still that people need to be 18 to marry. The former threshold of 14 years was among the lowest in Europe. Spain's conservative government also raised the age of consent from 13 to 16, a measure it said was necessary to combat paedophilia, while decriminalising sexual relations between teens of the same age. The law aims to stop "abuses, those relationships that are not between one equal and another," Salome Adroher, family and child services director at the health ministry, said. In Spain, marriages between minors are increasingly rare. In 2014, just one marriage involving a minor under the age of 15 took place, according to the National Institute of Statistics. 8 Ekiti PDP members to join APC

A former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Olufemi Bamisile, has said eight serving State Executive Committee members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State will soon join the All Progressives Congress. The APC chief said this on Thursday at a meeting with APC members at his campaign office in the Ado Ekiti located just beside the PDP secretariat. Bamisile said the decision of the PDP executive members to join the APC was part of his efforts to weaken the ruling party and strengthen the opposition party ahead of the 2018 governorship poll. The ex-Speaker, who was the state PDP Vice Chairman before he moved to the APC last year, said the eight chiefs had become sad about the way the state was being run by Governor Ayodele Fayose. The National Emergency Management Agency on Thursday confirmed that 29 persons were killed in Wednesday’s attacks at two motor parks in Gombe. The information officer of the agency in Gombe State, Umar Madigawa, in a message to our correspondent, said the explosion at Dadin Kowa motor park occurred at 7:15pm on Wednesday and that of Dukku motor park happened shortly after that, at 8:30pm. He said 17 of the bodies recovered from the explosion sites were deposited at Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, and 67 injured persons taken for treatment. ADVERTISEMENT At the Specialists Hospital in Gombe, according to him, 12 other corpses were deposited with 38 persons taken there to be treated. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday raised the alarm over an alleged plan by insurgents to bomb his house. Osinbajo raised the alarm during a meeting of the National Economic Council held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The council, which has the Vice President as its chairman, comprises of all state governors. According to a statement issued at the end of the meeting, Osinbajo who had toured some of the states witnessing insurgency in the North-East, told members of the council that intelligence report made available to him indicated that insurgents were planning to dump refuse laden with bombs in his house. Nig's anti-graft agency EFCC invites Senate president's wife

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited Toyin Saraki, the wife of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, for questioning over alleged shady contracts during her husband’s tenure as the governor of Kwara State. Also, the daughter of the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua, who is also the wife of an ex-Governor of Kebbi State, Mrs. Zaina Dakingari, was said to have been invited by the anti-graft agency. Saraki’s wife is billed to appear before EFCC interrogators on July 28, a day after Yar’Adua’s daughter would have been questioned. Mrs Dakingari, The PUNCH learnt on Wednesday, would answer questions on the alleged misappropriation of N2bn state funds.
