Fatal shooting occurs at Delta State University

After an intense manhunt, authorities in Mississippi said a college instructor wanted in the deaths of a woman he lived with and a university professor he worked with died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound as police closed in on him. Investigators said Lamb, 45, was a suspect in the slayings of 41-year-old Amy Prentiss, who was found dead in the home she shared with Lamb in Gautier; and 39-year-old Ethan Schmidt, a history professor who was killed in his office on campus in Cleveland. The campus was put on lockdown as armed officers methodically went through buildings, checking in closets, behind doors and under tables and desks. University President William LaForge said late Monday that the lockdown had been lifted. He said there would be no classes Tuesday but students, faculty and staff were invited to campus to attend a vigil in the evening. Election petition tribunal delivers ruling on Ajimobi's election

Ajimobi The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Oyo State, south-west Nigeria, has upheld the election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the April 11 polls. The petition was filed by the Accord Party governorship flag bearer, Senator Rashidi Ladoja. The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by the Justice Mohammed Aliyu Mayaki-led election Petition Tribunal, amidst tight security around the premises of the sitting. Justice Mayaki in his ruling submitted that the petitioner failed to link the evidences before the Tribunal to specific portions of the petition. He declared that the petitioner lacked the ability to prove evidence before the Tribunal. According to him, all the witnesses invited by the petitioner presented contradictory evidence before the Tribunal. Oritsejafor "false prophecy" convinced Jonathan to run again - Okotie

The General Overseer of Household of God Church, Rev. Chris Okotie, on Sunday said that were it not Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s “false” prophecy to former President Goodluck Jonathan, the latter (Jonathan) would not have contested the 2015 presidential election. He said that the former President had initially made up his mind not to vie for the election, but stated that Oritsejafor “deceived” him with tales of victory as prophesied unto him by God. Oritsejafor is the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria. President Olusegun Obasanjo has been described by Prof, Wole Soyinka as an overgrown child of circumstance and “an affliction that those of us who share the same era and nation space must learn to endure”. The renowned playwright stressed that if the former President “offered to host me, I would wait until he had first swallowed a morsel from the same dish”.  These scathing remarks formed part of how Soyinka described Obasanjo in his new book, titled InterInterventions: Between Defective Memory and the Public Lie – A Personal Odyssey in the Republic of Liars, presented in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Saturday. The letter above says it all. Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi is New Ooni of ife. His appointment was announced in a press statement by the Government of Osun state moments ago. The Statement was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti. The statement reads: “The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has approved the appointment of a new Ooni of Ife. He is Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi of the Giesi Ruling House of Ile Ife State of Osun. This choice follows the completion of the due process by the kingmakers and the communication of their decision to the Government.”

Nigerian-born US-based doctor builds 100 local homes for widows

Godwin Maduka, A Nigerian medical doctor based in the United States of America, Godwin Maduka, has built no fewer than 100 bungalows for widows and other indigent persons in his Umuchukwu community in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state. Umuchukwu, a boundary community between Anambra and Abia State, is relatively rural. And according to an excited native of the community, today, there is no thatched house in the community. Maduka replaced every thatched house in the area with three or four-bedroom bungalows and about 100 of such buildings are currently in place in the community. They belong to the indigent natives, especially widows.
