I’ve never called Toyin Aimakhu to reconcile with her – Niyi Johnson

Image
Niyi Johnson Adeniyi Johnson, actor and estranged husband of Yoruba actress, Toyin Aimakhu, has said he has not made any reconciliatory moves to get her ex back since the marriage broke up; rather the reverse has been the case. In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, Niyi debunked the tale that he has been calling Toyin every time in order to see if they could work on their marriage. “This is a blatant lie! In fact, the reverse is even the case. I can’t even remember the last time I spoke to her; it probably was sometime last year.  I have never called her since this controversy started. But she has been the one calling me. I have a lot of evidence to prove this.” When asked if there are chances of them reconciling, Niyi was not forthcoming with a response but rather chose to say, “I would rather not talk about it. But I have to tell you that in a few weeks, things will unfold.” Meanwhile, few days ago, Niyi, in a press release, reacted to the story that he allegedly tri...

EFCC: Omisore disowns PDP emissaries to Ooni

Image
PDP leaders beg Ooni to forgive, help Omisore The embattled former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has distanced himself from the Peoples Democratic Party emissaries led by the Chairman of the party in Osun State, Mr. Soji Adagunodo to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. Adagunodo, who was in an opposing camp to Omisore’s had led some members of the party to the palace of Oba Ogunwusi and pleaded with the monarch to forgive Omisore who has yet to visit the Ooni seven months after he was enthroned as the Ife monarch. They also asked the monarch to assist Omisore, who is his subject to get out of the detention of  the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. But a close ally of Omisore, who is also the spokesperson for the party in the state, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, in a statement on Sunday said Adagunodo’s action was tantamount to a mockery and a pretence. Odeyemi stated, “When EFCC came after Omisore, it is logical to assume that Adagunodo group...

PENGASSAN Strike: Fuel Depots Set to Run Dry if Industrial Action Persists

Should the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria be allowed to linger beyond Wednesday, most depots in Apapa, Lagos, will run out of fuel stock, our correspondent has learnt. Following the commencement of the strike on Thursday, loading at Apapa depots, where many marketers get petroleum products to other states, has been reduced due to the absence of workers of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund Board. The PEF personnel usually certify marketers’ trucks to enable them to get bridging funds for fuel being transported to distant parts of the country. It was gathered that marketers were only loading to Lagos and other South-West states that required no payment of bridging fund by the PEF. The Federal Government had said it would meet with the leadership of PENGASSAN today (Monday) in a bid to resolve the problem. A source, who is an official of an independent marketing company in Lagos, said, “Terminal owners can only...

Here comes the Euro 2016 Champions!

Image
Portugal won Euro 2016 after Eder’s superb extra-time strike gave them a 1-0 victory over hosts France in Paris, despite Cristiano Ronaldo coming off injured in the first half. Former Swansea striker Eder, who came on as a late second-half replacement for Renato Sanches, struck low into the bottom corner past Hugo Lloris from 25 yards to hand Portugal their first-ever major tournament crown in dramatic fashion on Sunday. The sight of Portugal’s captain Ronaldo in tears after being substituted with a knee injury after 25 minutes was undoubtedly the key moment from a tame first half, though the majority of half-chances fell to France. In the second half, unmarked Antoine Griezmann’s glancing header went just over the bar from close range, before substitute Andre-Pierre Gignac hit the post in stoppage time. Portugal had the better chances in extra-time, hitting the post through Ricardo Quaresma’s free-kick before Eder’s stunning winner, his first competitive international g...

Buhari’s appointments: A tilt towards the North

Image
LEKE BAIYEWU  examines the controversy that has continued to trail President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments, which are seen as lopsided to favour a particular section of the country Amidst grievances from the different parts of the country over the appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari, which are widely believed to be lopsided in favour of the North, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Sen. Ita Enang, on Wednesday dismissed such insinuations. Enang, who is from Akwa Ibom State in the South-South geopolitical zone of the country, at an event in Abuja, said the Federal Government deserved the support of the Cross River and Akwa Ibom people as well as the entire inhabitants of the South-South because the current administration had been kind to them and generous in terms of appointments from the two states. He noted that Buhari gave the two states the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and Chi...

Robot's role in killing Dallas shooter is a first

Image
There's nothing new about a dangerous suspect dying at the hands of police. But Thursday night in Dallas, the situation played out with a twist. Micah Johnson,  believed to have killed five police officers , was killed by an explosive device that a robot delivered. Two executives at robotic companies told CNN this is the first time a police robot has been involved in a civilian's death. "We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was," Brown said at a news conference Friday morning. "Other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger." It's unclear exactly what type of robot was used in the suspect's death. Robots are common inside police departments, and generally used to disable explosive devices or disorient and incapacitate suspects that are barricaded. Sometimes these robots are used to place an explosive near a bomb in order to d...
