Musings:Why Tinubu Removed Egbetokun Suddenly (Nigeria)

That Kayode Egbetokun, the erstwhile Inspector Genera of the Nigeria Police has been removed from office by President Bola Tinubu is no longer news.

The news is now everywhere that President Tinubu demanded for the resignation of the former number one police boss at a meeting with the police chief at Aso Rock

Though official accounts say Egbetokun tendered his official resignation from office in order to attend to grave family concerns, it is highly unlikely the police chief would need to shelve his uniform and boots for civilian life so soon in order to address them.

It's not as if there are no official structure at the police headquarters to ease the load on oga patapata, he's not on the field at police checkpoints checking drivers' particulars, or that no nonsense investigative officer interrogating a suspect crying "a beg sir" in one of Naija 's numerous police stations, or a crack detective on the move prowling in bars and backyard  alleys of the underground world on the trail of criminals, he is the odogwu oha that preside other big ogas supervising areas, states and commands.

He is to give direction and advice again with the help of competent aides.

There's more to the abrupt removal. Many nugerians would remember the great extents President Tinubu went to in getting the national assembly to extend his tenure to September 2027 instead of returning on September 2024. There was yam pepper scatter scatter everywhere over the matter then as some saw the move as ojoro which it's debatable any other president has done before.

Some wondered at what's so special about Egbetokun 's abilities for the president to have done that, while others speculated the president maybe wanted a trusted aide to superintend the 2027 polls before exit.

So, after baba bent his heavily laden back to guarantee a tenure extension for Egbetokun, the police boss did not have personal issues among his grand children or extended family to resolve as a major family figure?

Okay. It is now that American soldiers are crunching their boots on Naija soil gathering intelligence and marshalling war in terror alongside Nigeria forces comprising the Nigerian police, that oga have to contend with probably land disputes or likely marital disputes in his clan? Or, oga madam or wants to do tunmigbe marriage vow renewals necessitating having oga by her grandmotherly side far away from glamorous official residence they are already cohabiting in Abuja for the lure of quiet "me and my husband" solitude life?

At a time too, that investigations are said to be widening their investigations into the botched military coup detat against President Tinubu in a planned overthrow that would have been a very brut@l and bl000dy one assuming it wasn't exposed. It can't be that oga police is *gasp* implicated in the plot? Tufiakwa! God forbid! May we not see evil!

Even if it's just two days ago, mere two days ago, that I was just reading reports that investigators traced N860 million as budget spent already for the aborted coup to some individuals, but that has to be other "individuals" na, it cannot be the president's trusted police boss!

Well, my own is just that, oga Egbetokun, presidency and the spokespersons should just come out and talk true why Egbetokun was actually, suddenly removed like this.

That spin that they spun as reason why the former IG resigned or was demanded to do so by President Tinubu is not spinning with me here at all.

Or, you believe that?
