BREAKING: Blast rips through Lagos airport, as workers strike
A massive explosion ripped through the cargo wing of Lagos airport in Nigeria's commercial capital today and witnesses said they feared there would be casualties. "The explosion tore through the building," a witness told Reuters. "The place is till on fire with smoke rising high. Ambulances have raced to the scene and a helicopter is flying overhead." There was no immediate explanation for the blast at the complex, which is usually used to store cargoes.
In another development related to the airport, the workers at the airport terminal has embarked on an industrial action. Traffic control workers, flight technicians, engineers and other vital ground staff at the airport has downed tools. According to a witness, passengers whom were initially checked on to scheduled flights this morning by airlines were forced to disembark eventually. There was no possible way through which flights can safely navigate Lagos airport without the ground staff so, many flights were forced to postpone flights.
