It also has many medicinal benefits too. Many blood and bone  ailments are cured or put into remission, via increased raw onion consumption.  Lately, it has become very expensive in Nigerian markets and many households could barely afford it in their cooking. A small basket if it goes for N35,000-N40,000 even in direct-source commodity markets like Mile 12, Lagos.  Why? Onions are largely produced in northern Nigeria.
