School Collapses In Lagos Today, (Metro)
Tragedy was averted today. Thanks to good thinking and quick reflexes.
Students and teachers at two schools owned by one proprietor, Yemco Nursery & Primary school, and Yemco Comprehensive College in Ogba, Lagos escaped de@th by the whiskers as the building housing the school started collapsing.
But, there was a brisk evacuation of the four-storey building minutes before it collapsed around noon today. Everyone escaped safely.
Some call it a miracle, a work of God, especially it is pointed at a restaurant to ongoing Lent and Ramadan that played a huge part in the incident.
It is not impossible. But, let's praise the quick actions of the school's management too. Or is it solely a "miracle"?
But, why such a collapse? There was no rain or storm that could have caused this collapse unless the building was not structurally fit from the beginning. Houses built during the colonial era by Nigerians, not even the colonialists, are still standing today despite decades or centuries of battling inclement weather and huge traffic of people.
The appropriate agencies, like the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and others must please note and establish more structures to prevent further occurrences.
