Katy Perry slams Taylor Swift over Nicki Minaj
If Taylor Swift and Katy Perry didn’t have “Bad Blood” before, they certainly do now.
Fans of Swift have long-speculated that her most recent No. 1 single—which was just nominated for nine MTV Video Music Awards—is about her falling out with Katy Perry, who pretty much confirmed that interpretation when she weighed in on Swift’s recent, widely criticized Twitter exchange with Nicki Minaj.
“Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…” Perry tweeted Wednesday. While previous Perry tweets presumed to be about Swift have been cryptic enough to be deniable, this one couldn’t be more obvious.
On Tuesday Nicki Minaj criticized the Video Music Awards for not recognizing the talents of black women and snubbing “Anaconda” for Video of the Year consideration, an industry-level criticism that Swift took as a personal attack. “I’ve done nothing but love & support you,” she tweeted at Minaj. “It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.” And yet, Perry seems to note, if Swift doesn’t want to pit women against one another, shooting a video that makes a massive spectacle out of taking down the woman who wronged her doesn’t exactly send that message
