NIGERIA: Jonathan Cancels Chibok Visit

President Goodluck Jonathan has called off a disputed planned visit to Chibok, the town where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted, officials say.Borno.
Earlier, sources had told the BBC he would visit Chibok, in the north-eastern besieged state of , on his way to a conference convened by French authorities on how to best handle the threat from Boko Haram militants.
But, officials said security concerns led to the cancellation of the visit.
Instead, the president flew direct to France.
Doyin Okupe, a special assistant to the president, denied the report during an interview momnitored on CNN. He said it was not among Jonathan's itineary to travel to Chibok, and that was why he kept to his schedule to travel to France. Okupe reminded journalists to crosscheck their facts with information duly sent out by Reuben Abati, a senior assistant to the president on media, before publishing information on the president's schedule of activities.
Reports had earlier circulated yesterday that Abati had tweeted that Jonathan will visit Chibok to commiserate with the families of the victims and view the scene of the incident.
