JUST HAPPENING: Ademola Adeleke, Osun's Gov, Joins New Party (Politics)
Gov. Ademola Adeleke has been embroiled in troubled web of navigating the platform through which he will prosecute his second term bid.
The main opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) through which he emerged victorious, is embattled to the point where its implosion is threatening its extinction in Nigeria s politics.
The chapter of the All Progressive's Congress (APC) would not have him despite his soaring popularity in Odun state. Despite his fervent rapprochement with President Bola Tinubu in order to gain a foothold as the party's gubernatorial candidate if he defects, the president was noncommittal.
The party ruling apparatus stridently and publicly warned him off in no uncertain terms in strongly worded press statements. They feel they have sweated a lot to rebuild the party following the defeat of the then sitting APC Governor Gboyega Oyetola to just relinquish the party's topmost slot to Adeleke again. Besides, the party leadership already had its aspirant for the position, so, they view Adeleke as an usurper.
Despite the futility of these efforts, he made up his mind and quit PDP few days ago. Some speculated he was moving to the APC finally.
But, moments ago, Adeleke announced Accord Party as his next political platform to pursue his re-election bid.
Let the game begin.
