Ex-militants woo northern youths for Jonathan
Ex-militants of the Niger Delta region from the western axis of Ondo, Edo and part of Delta states, have called on Nigerian youths, especially, the Northern youths to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, in the forthcoming presidential election, with a promise to support a youthful Northerner in the next dispensation.
The ex-militants, who stated this at the end of a meeting in Agadagba Obon in the Ese Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State ,at the weekend, assured the Northern youths that Jonathan presidency will give room for Northern youths to rule the country in 2019.
Speaking on behalf of the ex-militants, Chief Bibopiri Ajube, said the nation has nothing to gain from the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) Muhammadu Buhari, saying it will spell doom for the country and deny the northern youths the chance to rule the country.
Ajube urged Buhari to leave the stage for younger blood in the north, who can truly reposition the country, saying that the APC presidential candidate had ruled the country some 30 years ago and had lost touch on how to turnaround the country.
He said: “they have always referred to us the leaders of tomorrow and they are still interested in ruling the country and when will they allow younger generation to rule the country.?
“We must vote out old blood out of our system, they have failed to develop the country to our expectations, yet, they have no plan for the people of the country and now is the time to correct our past mistakes”
Ajube noted that those clamouring for change of government had no genuine programme for the country but are only doing so because Jonathan hailed from the minority ethnic group and urged Nigerians to vote for Jonathan to witness more transformation in all sectors of the economy.
They specifically assured the northern youths that the ex- militants will support a fresh blood from the region after the expiration of President Jonathan in 2019 and called on Nigerians to allow Jonathan to spend his second term
The ex- militants commended the administration of the late President Umaru Yar’adua, for establishing the amnesty programmes for the Niger Delta militants, which he said, had brought peace to the region.
“We appreciate former President Yar’adua gesture on the amnesty programme, which is being supported and implemented by President Jonathan. Vote for Jonathan to complete his second term and we are assuring you of our support for the northern youths come 2015.”
