Coalition: Why APC Held a National Summit Today (Politics)
The coalition talks among the opposition looks like it's gaining traction in the last few days.
Realizing the battle to stop President Bola Tinubu from getting a second term is an Hercules task that seems nigh impossible, the opposition is starting early..
But, in the face of the concrete confidence the ruling party got recently following a tsunami of defections from within the same opposition, the All Progressives' Congress (APC) is not loosening it's lead. Today's, it held a national summit comprising all ministers, members of national assembly, governors, past excis, past governors in a power move to show its swelling tanks. This is in stark contrast to a pitifully shrunk opposition that boasted of a few notable individuals.
The ruling party gained an advantage when signals in the Nigerian political space reveals that securing political office in Nigeria now, is by belonging to the ruling party. Current office holders are also not unmindful of the political scenery now, that to return to positions currently held, they must join the ruling party.
In the last one month, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoles Party, Peoles Democratic Party and a few other opposition parties have suffered huge setbacks as top office holders have quit their membership to join APC..Before, the opposition was in the majority while APC was the minority. But now, ruling APC is also the majority party.
That's what today's national summit was about. To flaunt in vivid reality it's elephant size membership and intimidating pedigree.
The virtually non-existent opposition that's s rambling hi to gain relevance and authority in the politics of Nigerian has a long, arduous road towards dislodging the APC from.power in the 2027 polls.
