Sherifat "Shaffy" Belo has sure come a long way toeards becoming the mainstay in Nollywood. Her immaculate acting skills, impeccable diction, enunciation, beauty and chic, sartorial elegance has made her the hottest favourite in the pantheon of stars from Nollywood.
Acting was not her first love though. It was kusic. Despite a background in science as a registered nurse in the United States, Shaffy is more drawn to the arts. She burst on to the scene like a volcano as a CO singer with her cousin Seyi Sodoku on the blockbuster hut, Love Me Jeje in the 90s. Later , WA Na Mi Jo followed.
Afterwards, silence. She totally faded from scene.
Shaffy powered back into reckoning with her starting role in Eti Keta, a film by Shared Balogun, over a decade ago. Her presence and impactful.role delivery quickly drew producers and directors in. There has been no turning back since.
Not just brave resilience and talent, her story exposes yet again the power of connections and networking. She was particularly helped by Kate Henshaw, her fellow actor whom she met on the set of Eyi Keta. A strong friendship bond formed and cemented over the years. Kate opened the gates of Nollywood to her and helped facilitate strong connections that helped her blossom and shine.
As she struts and moves successfully on the acting stage, not many knows that her rose came with heavy thorns. Bored and unsatisfied with her nursing job despite its huge financial rewards in US where she lived, she desperately felt stifled and unhappy, and craves another artistic outlet to fulfill her potential. Doing Eti Keta felt exhilarating and made her realize that's the spark she needed.

Not her husband though. He preferred her sticking to her high paying nursing job and her family. She tried compromising by commenting to.nigrria for film shoots and US, with her nursing job. The pressure was overwhelming. Faced with the choice of nursing and family duties in US, and being a full time Nollywood film actor based in Nigeria, she chose the latter.
The decision cost her her marriage. It is her biggest sacrifice . Reflecting on that decision, she said though it's a painful decision to make but in the final analysis, she has no regrets. Her kids, a boy and girl, are young adults now and have come to live and admire her courage to pursue what makes her happy and fulfilled.
She stands out most, for her scandal free lifestyle. There has not been a single untoward rumour about her till date. And, she has not got entangled in any controversy since her emergence. That is an admirable achievement in the oft murky world of entertainment and make believe.
