Okanlomo for Seyi Tinubu: Alaafin On Warpath With Ooni (Nigeria)

This monarch though! The  Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Hakeem Abimbola Owoade, wants to install presidents first son, Seyi Tinubu, as the "Okanlomo of Yorubaland" this weekend.

This development is coming two weeks after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, installed an influential businessman in Ibadan, Prince Dotun Sanusi, as the "Okanlomo" of Oodua.


So, the monarch couldn't find any other title to dash out but the very same title that the king he chooses to lock horns with had dashed someone recently? The Alaafin and Oba Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi, the Oonirisa of Ife, have been embroiled in a cold war which many thought Chief Kessington Adebutu had settled on his 90th birthday recently.

I respect all thrones but it seems this Alaafin is very petty. I recall that he approached the Ooni for help during his Coronation to ensure high power traditional rulers attend the event. This, Ooni did by inviting Oba Atuwatse of Warri, even, the Sultan of Sokoto! But, mere days afterwards, he started. First, it was because Ooni gave out a title using "of Yorubaland" which he argued is the sole preserve of the Alaafin cutting a 1991 supreme court judgement. Something he could had just discussed with the Ooni over the phone, given the magnanimity Ooni showed.

Then, there's te controversy over the be@t1ng to de@th of the Oba of Oyotunji village in South Carolina in his palace. The Oyotunji king went to Alaafin's palace to pay homage. According to the voice note he recorded and sent out before he kpaied at the hospital, he said the kings counter changed when he asked him who installed him as Oyotunji's king and he told him it was the Ooni. Promptly, he said the Alaafin called for his security guards to beat him up, on the allegation that he was a spy for the Ooni. Maybe the name of the town should have been Ifetunji. Probably because Oyo prefix in Oyotunji demands that  he should have been installed by the Alaafin. Anyways, the man kpaied due to injuries he sustained. Till date, nothing has been heard further  about the development.


Now, this.

It's certain the Alaafin wants war with the Ooni for reasons not yet known.

Or, of all pressing issues in Nigeria, what is this ?

The Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Abimbola Owoade , is primed to honour illustrious Nigerians who have contributed immediately to the growth of Yorubaland , Sunday, December 22..  Chief among those he intend to honour is Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu , as the “ Okanlomo of Yorubaland ”. Similarly, the monarch will also install Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari representing Zamfara West as the “ Obaloyin of Yorubaland ”.
