Tuesday’s 3-1 victory away to Championship high-flyers Derby County put Mourinho within three matches of regaining the first trophy that he won during his initial tenure at Stamford Bridge, while they lead the Premier League by three points and have made it through to the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will take on French champions Paris St. Germain.

A number of pundits believe that Chelsea have the depth and the quality to challenge on each of those fronts as well as in the FA Cup, in which they begin their campaign against Watford at the beginning of January.

But Mourinho refused to be drawn on those talks, insisting that his main focus in Monday’s trip to Stoke City. He said: ‘You spoke a few weeks about being unbeatable in the Premier League - we never did it. Now you speak about a quadruple but we must keep our feet on the ground.’

‘We can win on Monday. But it will be difficult. We don’t chose competitions, the next match is the most important thing.’
