Warri group endorses Ambode

A group of old students of the Federal Government College Warri, the alma mater of the Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, have said the background of the flag bearer had prepared him to provide the state with excellent leadership.
A statement signed by a member of the group, Joy Chinwokwu, and sent to SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday, said the group spoke at a recent event held in Ambode’s honour in Lagos.
A leading member of group, Mrs. Maureen Awobokun, according to the statement observed that Ambode, who set a record as the youngest-ever Auditor-General of Lagos State, at 37, demonstrated similar excellence as a student, when he made the second best result in the entire West Africa in the Higher School Certificate examinations in 1981.
She said Ambode further proved to be consistent when he later, at 21, bagged a University of Lagos degree in Accounting, and at 24 qualified as a Chartered Accountant, while obtaining a master’s degree same year.
“Ambode, who completed his master’s degree in Accounting on a Federal Government scholarship, was the best student in an accountancy course while on Rockefeller Foundation scholarship in the United States,” she was quoted as saying.
In his remarks, Mr. Fidelis Oditah (SAN), a former classmate of the candidate, said Ambode, as a prefect in the school, demonstrated immense quality leadership skills and left indelible marks as a trend setter.
According to Oditah, later in life, Ambode as the President of the Federal Government College Warri Old Students Association, demonstrated maturity and became “a social engineer and a man of impeccable character and high integrity.”
Speaking on why Lagosians should trust the APC candidate, Oditah said, “You can give him your money without receipt and he will refund you to the last kobo when needed. He is entirely selfless. He is a man who has devoted himself entirely to his community. He is a genuine friend. Lagos State is blessed to have him
