Ijeoma, Dora Akunyili's Daughter, Breaks Medical Barrier in US (Nigerian in Diaspora)
An apple does not fall far from the tree, so the cliche says. In this case, beautifully too.
How else can one describe the enviable and laudable strides that the children of the late JC and Dora Akunyili
making in the United States?
Dora was the extremely bold, cerebral, hyper intelligent and irreplaceable DG of NAFDAC in Nigeria who boldly stated down the face of bullets in her efforts to rid Nigeria of counterfeit drugs and commodities. This is literally, an assassin's bullet pierced the head tie she had on while in a car, missing her scalp by nano inches. Her late husband was similarly the most heavily guarded scholar in Nigeria because the counterfeiters who could not bribe the incorruptible Dora went after her husband. Many times, assassin's went after her husband at University if Nigeria where he lectured.
Her last child was kidn@@ppd ,whilst being driven back from his school at a point. The brave boy only escaped after lying to his c@ptors that Dora was not her mother. Afraid they've got the wrong child, they released him.
Alarmed they are coming after her kids, Dora and JC sent all of them to US to continue their education. The couple had won the DV Visa Lottery's do, has green cards. But, they were too patriotic to leave Nigeria for good. "Nigeria made us. My husband I became who we are today because if the scholarships given to us by the Nigerian government. This is our way of paying Nigeria back."
But, they completed the process because it their kids' future, si they can someday live in the USA legally if they choose.
That astute decision is paying off handsomely, rsoec6follieing their parent's deaths.
Dr. Ijeoma Akunyili, the daughte, has just been appointed as the Chief Medical Officer of Jersey City Medical Center, in the US.
With this feat, she becomes the first Black physician to lead the hospital since its founding in 1882.
Bravo! The Akunyili's spirit of excellence lives on!
