Ogun 2027: Yayi' Breaks Record As Supporters Donate N500m Within Days: Its Implications (Politics)

Some politicians has got imade.

For them, the road to 2027 is akin to a new ten- lane expressway devoid of traffic gridlocks, no bumps, no stops, no headache but a breezy, smooth run to the finish line in 2027 for victory.

Such is the case for candidates who have secured consensus endorsements from their respective political parties and are now, candidates of their parties. Like Ibikunle Amosun who got a consensus ticket to represent Ogun central in the Senate; incumbent governor of Ogun, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to represent Ogun East in  same Senste and Olamilekan Adeola, popular called Yayi. They have secured automatic candidacy, they only had to contend with their opponents in the general elections.

Among these consensus candidates in Ogun, Yayi's popularity and acceptance is thunderous. Deafening. Since he joined Ogun politics from Lagos, he had endeared himself to the electorate with his massive infrastructural projects executed round the state, his wife acceptability is beyond astounding. Everywhere one turns to in Ogun, it is clear as day that the turn of Yayi, a serving senator and chairman of appropriations committee, has come.

Now, Mega Mode Media learns that a fresh indicator of people's love for Yayi cuts across all clades, not just the masses but also, among the elites.

An independent fundraising drive by a group intent on purchasing the gubernatorial nomination form for him was established by some supporters a few days ago.

As at filing this report, the fund has raised over N500 million, still counting. The gubernatorial form costs N50 million. This represents a 100 percent increase in funds donated in mere days. This is setting a record. It is unprecedented in the history of campaigns and politicking in the state.

However, Mega Mode Media urges caution. Excessive donations could lead to undue influence over the ruler when he attains power because these donations could be weaponized against him. This is especially needful for monies donated from special interests and Big Business notoriously known for mostly exerting undue influence over governance with campaign donations.

Yayi needs to scrutinize these donations well before accepting it so it would not become the proverbial thorny bone splinter stuck in a throat after a meal.
