Why The North Shunned Visiting President Tinubu During Sallah Break (Nigeria)
The north is really very mad at President Tinubu.
President Bola TinubuAnytime he travels to Lagos for prominent holidays in the past two years that he's been the Nigerian president, people swarm his anywhere he is like ants on an anthill.
Governors from all 36 states and the federal capital, other political office holders, prospective office holders, contractors and those seeking patronage, etc, are wont to strive to outdi one another in visiting President Tinubu as a mark of loyalty.
In December 2023, all state governors visited President Tinubu at once. Some sew special uniform clothes for such visits. It was a jamboree of visits.
But now, during the just ended Sallah break which President Tinubu observed in Lagos, the story is now different. The north states far away from Tinubu.
His offence? Alleged skewed appointments into offices to the detriment of the north. Especially, if agencies like the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Plc., Nigeria's domestic national oil company which has mostly been the exclusive preserve of the north.
With such rumblings, the hitherto jostling crowd thinned. Only a handful of politicians with problematic issues like Rivers governor Similayi Fubara who's busy sucking up to the president in order to shorten the emergency rule imposed in his state; Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun who's trying to gaia second term, and so on.
The president looks unfazed though. Judging by his non-inclination to quietly let it be known that he wants supporters and dancers jampacking his abode as a show of strength it public approval.
He marked his holidays and returned to Abuja to continue his work.
