Group tasks FG on Akwa Ibom REC, Police Commissioner (The Punch)
Buhari Friends Organisation Network, Akwa Ibom State chapter, has asked for the immediate redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Austin Okojie as well as the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong.
The group alleged that both the CP and the REC compromised their positions during the presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28.
State coordinator, BFON, Mr. Sylvanus Nyauko, said in Uyo on Wednesday that the April 11 elections would not be transparent, free and fair if the two men were allowed to conduct the governorship and the state House of Assembly elections.
Nyauko stated that the last election results did not represent the actual voting strength of Akwa Ibom people.
He said that given the announced voting figures of 58,000 for Buhari and over 900,000 for Jonathan, the figures were skewed to favour Jonathan.
He said, “What we are actually requesting for is that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s commissioner and the state commissioner of police be changed. We have stood firm on this and the party will do everything possible to make sure that we do not stand for elections under the leadership of these people.
“Once this is done then we will know there will be a fair ground to contest election, which Umana Umana, the APC governorship candidate, will continue to win as it happened on March 28.
“We know the population of Akwa Ibom State. For Buhari to be given 58,000 votes against over 900,000 votes for Jonathan, did not represent the actual voting strength of the people of Akwa Ibom State. This showed that something went wrong.
“Just as we have always been saying, there was no election in Akwa Ibom State. All the results sheets were manipulated. There is no way we can win if the results of the elections are manipulated and the election materials are taken away.
“So with these men in place, we should expect the same thing to happen. That is why we are saying that these people should be redeployed from the state before the next elections.”
