Saudi princess spends $20 million, then did w-h-a-t?? (marie claire)

We've heard of shopping addictions before, but this one takes the cake: the Princess of Saudi Arabia reportedly spent $20 million on luxury goods and hotels - but failed to pay the bill afterwards.
According to reports, Maha bint Mohammed bin Ahmad al-Sudairi, former third wife and cousin of the late Nayef bin Abdulaziz al-said, managed to rack up a $7 million bill at the exclusive Shangri La Hotel in Paris, where she and an entourage stayed for five months.
Instead of paying the bill though, they fled in limousines, leading to a tense stand-off with hotel staff, which was quickly covered up by high-ranking diplomats.
The Princess was then confined to her palace in Saudi Arabia by the King - a move he'd previously taken in 2009.
"She almost succeeded in ducking out on a $20 million tab during an epic shopping spree through the boutiques of the Avenue Montaigne, the Place Vendome, and elsewhere," reported Vanity Fair. "When it came time to ring up her purchases, Princess Maha reportedly shunned the usual payment methods, instead having a minion hand the merchant an embossed document stating, 'Payment to follow' - a very fancy I.O.U. At some point, however, the checks stopped going out."
Her bills were settled by the embassy, but the King issued a royal edict that she be confined to her palace when she returned to her home country. In the months that followed, the Princess's shopping addiction was laid bare:
"According to the acquaintance, after Princess Maha took an excursion to Geneva she needed four trucks to haul back her purchases - and she bought a Lamborghini and a Ferrari, despite the fact that she doesn't drive. (Women are not permitted to do so in Saudi Arabia.)
"According to that acquaintance, who visited her hotel suite, many of Princess Maha's packages were apparently never even opened: 'There were rooms and rooms full of bags and boxes. Everywhere you looked there were boxes and bags, almost all unopened.'"
But not everyone is unsympathetic towards the Princess, who was reportedly married off at the age of 13.
"There is a charm and a sweetness to her," a source told Vanity Fair. "But she's a lost soul. She's uneducated; you know, they want to marry these girls off as early as they can. Then they have nothing to do but shop. It makes for stupid women, and it's a real problem for the country - it means men are making all the decisions.
