Imo election tribunal receives unprecedented applications (Channelstv)

 The Election Petition Tribunal in Imo state says it has received eight petitions on the Senatorial Election, 18 from the House of Representatives, 12 from the State House of Assembly and none has been filed by any party on the Governorship elections.
Speaking to Channels Television off-camera at the Secretariat of the Tribunal in Owerri, Imo state capital, the Secretary of the Imo state Election Petition Tribunal, Mr Adamu Aliyu said the tribunal has commenced sitting.
Mr Aliyu also explained that the Tribunal has given an extension of one week for parties in the governorship elections to file their petitions, due to the supplementary nature of the election in the state.
He also disclosed that while Honourable Justice Abdullahi Sanya is the Presiding Judge over the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, while the Presiding Judge for the Governorship election tribunal is yet to be announced.
The Secretary maintained that the Tribunal in Imo State will do its job according to the law, without any fear or favor and ensure that all matters are treated accordingly without any form of partial justice.
Mr Aliyu added that the Tribunal will not entertain any flimsy applications by lawyers that is aimed at delaying proceedings unnecessarily, also calling for the support of the Lawyers, Journalists and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during all the sittings and proceeding of the Tribunal in the state
