Fire Kills 3 Children In Lagos


A mysterious fire outbreak at the weekend killed three children of the same parents, even as it razed their apartment in Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos State.
Our correspondents gathered that the inferno, which was caused by a burning candle, occurred around 10 pm at No 20, Fakoya Street, Vulcaniser Bus Stop, Egbeda Akowonjo on Saturday night.
The three kids, identified as Ifeoma, 9; Emeka, 7 and Udeoma all lost their lives.
Confirming the tragic incident, the director of Lagos State Fire Service, Razak Fadipe, said the fire outbreak occurred when the father of the children went out to check his wife, the mother of the children, in the hospital, where she had just given birth to their fourth child.
Fadipe added that the fire service was not informed about the fire outbreak on time and could not put out the fire.
The fire service boss, who urged people to stop the use of candle in their home to avert fire disasters.
He said, “We got a distress call and when we got there, we discovered that it was a building that was on fire. The building is located at No 20, Fakoya Street, Vulcaniser Bus Stop, Egbeda Akowonjo, a suburb of Lagos.”
According to him, the charred bodies of the children were removed to a mortuary by the police from Shasha division.
