Relationship: Actors Sean Penn and Charlize Theron surprise fans

Following a joint appearance at the Cannes Film Festival last month, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have split up, reports Us Weekly.
The magazine’s source claims that the couple broke off their engagement following the trip to the South of France, where Theron was promoting her superbly reviewed summer blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road. Per the movie-star mole, “Theron . . . was the one to break things off with the fellow Oscar winner.” Since the Us Weekly report broke Wednesday afternoon, E! has also published its own story about the split, citing its own sources.
In 2014, Theron told Vogue about the genesis of her romance with Penn. “Sean and I have known each other for 18 years,” the Oscar winner said. “We were just really good friends. And it's been slow going because you are aware that you could screw that up and lose it. We had to think about it."
