Lamar Odom is in deep mourning after the death of his best friendJamie Sangouthai. While the athlete has yet to break his silence on the tragedy, an insider tells Us Weekly he's "beside himself" with grief, and "really shaken" by the loss of his late pal.
According to the source, the former Lakers player, 35, was partying in Las Vegas when he got the news of Sangouthai's apparent overdose. "When he found out Jamie died, he was devastated," the insider tells Us.
The two had apparently hit a rough patch in their friendship a while back, but Odom is still "super sad," the source adds. "He feels like it could have happened to him. This is a huge wake-up call for him. It has really shaken him."
Another insider previously told Us, "They were best friends, like brothers. Lamar is going to take this really hard."
Sangouthai, 37, had been close with Odom for years, and even appeared on the NBA free agent's reality show, Khloe & Lamar, which documented his marriage to Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Khloe Kardashian. He infamouly did the rap song that tipped Khloe over to finally file for divorce from Lamar.
Still, after Sangouthai's death, Kardashian took to Twitter to pay tribute to her friend, sharing a broken heart emoji and the words, "When does it stop? RIP Jamie Sangouthai." She later Instagrammed a pop-art illustration of a woman crying, writing, "Life doesn't get easier but I promise you that life will make you stronger."
