Keshi escapes NFF's sanction

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) insists that Stephen Keshi “remains the head coach of the Nigeria national team“ despite reports linking him with the vacant Ivory Coast national team job.
Keshi was shortlisted as one of 60 coaches pencilled down to take over the job of national team coach by the Ivory Coast Football Federation.

Predictably, the news did not go down well with the NFF whose disciplinary/legal committee promptly summoned the trainer to explain the situation especially as he had been offered a two-year contract as Super Eagles coach.
Keshi duly attended the sitting of the committee on Tuesday in Abuja and stated in no unclear terms that he did not throw his hat in the ring to coach the reigning African champions, Les Éléphants (The Elephants).
Chairman of the NFF’s legal/disciplinary committee, Barrister Christopher Green revealed exclusively to supersport.com on Tuesday night that further investigation will continue after listening to Keshi’s explanations at the sitting in Abuja.
“We (members of the legal/disciplinary) committee have listened to the explanations of Mr Keshi and our investigations will continue.
“He told us categorically that he did not apply for the Ivory Coast job. As a lawyer, I know it’s logical to err on the side of caution so we will continue painstaking investigation and refer our findings to the Executive Committee (of the NFF).
“Right now, we are committed on our next 2017 Afcon qualifier against Tanzania and refuse to be distracted by situations like these.
“Mr Stephen Keshi remains the coach of the Nigeria national team and retains our (NFF) support,“ Green said.
Keshi has previously coached the national teams of Mali and Togo, famously guiding the latter to a place at the finals of the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany.
