Lagos Guber Poll: Ambode promises increased teachers' welfare if elected

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has said if voted into office, he will make sure the welfare of teachers is government’s number one priority.
Ambode said this during an interactive session with teachers in Lagos on Sunday.
The APC candidate identified with the teachers while describing himself as a son of a teacher and a fellow civil servant.
He, therefore, promised to use his understanding to serve the best interests of teachers.
He said, “I am the son of a teacher and was also a civil servant like you. So, I have the capacity to understand your concerns and adequately deal with them. I recognise you as the ones who helped to build the society that we hope to govern.
“I, therefore, assure you that all I will do as governor of this state will be in favour of your welfare and interests.
“I intend to continue and even improve upon the good work done in the education sector by the present government and with your support, I am sure the best has yet to come.”
Speaking through the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Lagos State chapter, Mr. Adesegun Ibrahim, the teachers stated that the present administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola had done quite well in the education sector.
They, however, firmly expressed their strong desire for better welfare and recognition.
In his response, Ambode addressed the leave bonus confusion and stated his readiness to reverse this in order to the harmonised pay pattern.
“The facilities for learning in our schools will be adequately provided. I’ve been to the best schools in the world to get knowledge, and I have every right to replicate such standards in Lagos schools. This is not impossible, we will work together to achieve it,” he said.
