UPDATE:

RIVERS State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, escaped death by the whiskers in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area as some gunmen suspected to be political thugs fired gunshots at him.
Two members of the All Progressives Congress were said to have been seriously injured during the incident, which happened at about 6pm on Thursday as the governor embarked on a door-to-door ward campaign in the area.
An SMS sent to our correspondent through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. David Iyofor, indicated that the thugs had also set bonfire along the road to prevent the governor from leaving.
The statement added that the thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, threw bottles, stones and other dangerous objects at the Governor Amaechi and his entourage.
“This evening, gunshots were fired at the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by PDP thugs.
“Obio/Akpor is the home of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Nyesom Wike. The thugs attacked the governor and his entourage with bottles, stones and various dangerous objects. Then gunshots were fired at the governor.
“When the governor was leaving the community, bonfire was set up on the road to prevent him from leaving. More gunshots were fired at his convoy. Amaechi was on door-to-door ward campaign in the state,” Iyofor’s statement read.

Tension heightened in Edo State yesterday over alleged deployment of armed soldiers to the country home of Edo Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in Iyamoh, Auchi in Etsakor West local government area ostensibly to intimidate him on the election day.
There are also reports that the Army high command in Abuja has drafted a special covert unit to All Progressives Congress (APC) strongholds in Edo North and Edo South senatorial zones to work against the ruling party in the state.
According to a statement by Edo Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Mr. Louis Odion, last night, the aim was to manipulate the election’s outcome in favour of PDP

EARLIER :
The next 48 hours are going to be marked with tension and brazen display of abuse of power by the ruling government as presidential election day arrives, March 28.

A top army source exclusively revealed that President Jonathan in collusion with security chiefs have deployed top army officials to immediately arrest top members of the opposition from ward levels to state chairmans of the All Progressives' Congress (APC)  in Rivers, Kano and Lagos.

Even before the ink is dry on the peace accord signed today before General Abdusalami Abubakar between APC's General Muhamadu Buhari and incumbent President Jonathan today in Abuja, the same president gave orders that Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano; Rotimi Amaechi of his home stat eof Rivers and Bola Tinubu, leading opposition figure have all been ordered arrested.

Anytime from now, these politicians will be arrested on trumped-up charges.

It would be recalled that APC raised fears about this development a few days ago with uncanny accuracy.

We are watching this situation. Updates to follow...
