Oyo: Ajimobi's aide decamps to PDP

Rotimi Agboluaje, Ibadan
The camp of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received a boost as the Special Assistant to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Housing, Hon. Gbolagade Abiodun, defected to the PDP in Ibadan yesterday. This has also brightened the chance of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 Presidential election.
Leading thousands of members of All Progressives Congress, Gbolagade openly declared support and readiness to work for the success of President Jonathan, saying the President has done well to deserve the support of any rightthinking Ibadan person especially going by the prospects of creation of Ibadan State.
Gbolagade also explained that his decision to dump the Broom Party and joined the Umbrella Party is largely due to the deceptive nature of the APC and his yearning to bring dividends of democracy to his people, especially people of his constituency and the state as a whole. In his word: “APC is a party with a lot of deceit. My supporters and I had waited for a long time, thinking that things will change for good, but it is obvious that, it would not.
Hence,l have to leave because the interest of my people is paramount to me. “We have decided to deliver Oyo State to President Jonathan and that is what will happen. My team of supporters from all across the 33 local government of the state are ready to ensure that President Jonathan wins the state in the coming election.
“We know President Jonathan has done a lot and with a better prospect of doing more if given the chance to do a second term. APC was not in support of the national conference, so the future of Ibadan State can never be actualised through them. “State creation comes with a lot of multiplying benefits and we know that our people will be better for it.
Today, I publicly renounce my membership of APC and I join PDP to work for its success at the polls”. Gbolagade who claimed that the time is not ripe for him to disclose some of the secrets of the APC, the party he has been from inception, said he awaited the first salvo from the APC before he would start to reel out many secrets publicly. Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory, Abuja who was on hand to welcome the  defectors to the party spoke briefly.
According to the Oyo State Coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, for someone like Hon. Gbolagade to decamp from the APC with his massive supporters and humble nature, then there is more than meets the eyes about the APC which people are not aware of and that the forthcoming election will be an opportunity for Nigerians to determine their future. Oloye Akinjide said: “People of Oyo State, March 28 election is a decisive election that would determine the future of Nigeria. It is a contest between light and darkness and between life and death. I challenge you to choose light and life which President Jonathan represents.
