Planned Protests: Dele Momodu Voices Opinion (Nigeria Beat)
Dele Momodu, a publisher, has raised his objection to the planned protests against the federal government currently gaining increasing momentum round the country.
Momodu, who said he's been involved in many protests since 1978, bases his objection in the fact that even though people have the right to make peaceful protests, it should be responsibly and transparently done and not agitated for yo cause insurrection by faceless individuals.
That, the masterminds of the protests undermine its altruism and legitimacy as being undertaken with good intentions.
"I have 46 years experience in protests, since 1978 at the University of Ife,"' he said adding, "There's nothing riskier for a nation than faceless people or a mob leading protests. It is the right of everyone to protest but not the right of anyone to cause mayhem...'
Therefore, the federal government has the full rights to use all options to quell such shadowy protests as it deem fit to secure the nation. "Government has the right to protect lives and properties," he said.
The rules governing peaceful protests anywhere in the world is first, that the planners must be known. Or, this signifies malicious intent.,
Or what do you think?
