"No More N500 Sale of Pepper & Tomatoes!" - Ooni of Ife Directs Markets (Nigeria Metro)

     Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi

The Oonirisa, Oba Enitan Babatunde Ohunwusi, Ogbagba II, Ooni of Ife, has just mandated all markets and their officials, to lower the prices of foodstuffs in markets located in Ile Ife, Osun state.

Specifically, the king directed that prices of rice should immediately be halved and that rices of haponero bell pepper and tomatoes should not exceed N200 per measure.

     The king's emissaries

Oba Ogunwusi, through the chiefs he sent to relay this instruction to the markets, explained that this directive is needful to cushion the harsh economic effects in the masses especially, following the end of certain festive seasons given by the market leaders for the hitherto hike in prices.  The Yoruba monarch mandated all the market officials to ensure compliance of this directive. "No more pepper and tomatoes of N500; it should be measured and sold in N100 and N200 measurements," the king instructed

             Jubilant crowd

The news was met with jubilant shouts if "O wii're!" (You delivered good tidings!) when the bearer of the news asked "mo wii're abi mi o wii're"? (Is this welcome news or unwelcomed?) in true customary fashion when kings send news bearers to announce decisions to the public.

Hope other monarchs in the land follow suit.

elated crowd erupted in gleeful shouts
