Nigeria was assembling cars in what was Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria (PAN) in those days.

But by the late 90s, PAN closed shop due to escalating production costs. Many bewaiked the development as a key loss of Nigeria's economic buoyancy, dominance and cultural icon. Its exit signals the end of an era.

But, that may well change soonest.

Car manufacturing business is resuming in Nigeria very soon.

And it's all got to do with the effort of Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the Dangote Group and Cosmas Maduka, chairman of Coscharis. They are partnering with French automobile manufacturers and other Nigerian companies to revive vehicle production in Nigeria.

To this end, Dangote pairs up through Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria (DPAN) and Renault with Coscharis Group intend to produce and sell 44,000 vehicles every year.

DPAN aims at relaunching with several Peugeot models, including the 301, 308, 3008, 5008, and 508 series.
