Iran's Withdrawal: FIFA Considers Replacement Team (Sports)
The juncture of politics and sports has again crossed. There are situations where countries weaponize participations in tournaments to prove a point, or force a desired outcome to the withdrawing team.

Iran’s Sports Minister, Ahmad Donyamali, made this announcement as he criticised the United States while confirming the country’s withdrawal from the global tournament. “There are no conditions under which we would participate in this World Cup,” Donyamali said, citing ongoing geopolitical tensions and regional conflicts.
Article 6.7 of the FIFA World Cup rules states that FIFA may determine “at its sole discretion” how to address an emergency like this.
Already, FIFA is considering replacing Iran's slot with its religious arch-foe Iraq or business competitor United Arab Emirates.
