Aso Rock, the seat of power in Nigeria has become busy recently. Some eminent leaders have started paying solidarity visits to the president.

Barely two weeks after Gen. TY Danjuma visited President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa, Aso Rock, another eminent statesman and former head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, paid a courtesy visit to the president at the seat of power.

It's almost as if he just won an election into office. Not like a president who has spent three years in office and is standing for re-election early next year.

They came beaming with smokes, commencing the president and assuring Nigerians he is doing well, the reforms he is carrying out are needful and advising the people to exercise patience as things would soon change.

Add this to the mix, the high level security and intelligence meeting that  President Tinubu had with security and intelligence chiefs in Aso Rock some days ago.

All these are happening few days before the president travels to UK on a state visit. He is billed to meet King Charles III, top parliamentary leaders, the business community and nugerians in UK

Danjuma's and Gowon's visits are instructive because they represent half of the military old guard who are still controlling the Nigerian military. The other half are Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, past heads of state also. These individuals represent the military industrial complex in Nigeria.

The Nigerian army is even split along the lines of khaki boys loyal to each past leader. It's either you're a Danjuma- boy,, IBB boy or Obj boy if you want to gain influence in the armed forces till today. Gowon does not really exert influence among the army like the other three due to his religious calling of be a pastor and largely a pacifist, a file he assumed upon seeing the horrors of w@r as Nigeria's president during the civil war, he still remains respected nevertheless among the barrack boys.

Among these people, there is hardly anything going on in the barracks and army formations nationwide that they do not know.

Months ago, some military person were indicted for plotting to overthrow the government via coup d'etat. It was meant to be a v10lent overthrow with the president and key cabinet figures slated got elimination..

As the president must compulsorily go on this state visit, it is not far-fetched to think that the past heads of state visited the president to signal a message to the "boys" not to try anything untoward once the president goes to London to see the king.

Afterall, that is not uncommon. President Kwame Nkrumah's plane was mid air on a state visit to Asia when he was overthrown in a coup. He was informed of this after he landed.

The worst democratic rule is better than the best military regime. Nigeria definitely choose democracy.  Any restlessness over the economy is best addressed in a democracy.
