Lagos: Register & Certify Your Officee, Apartment Elevator By Mar 31 Or Face Consequences! (Metro)

Lanre Mojola, DG/CEI, Lagos State Safety Commission

It is always a terrifying experience to get stuck in tiny and confined spaces. Even people with nerves of steel find such situations very worrisome and stressful.

Now, imagine being stuck in a faulty elevator for hours without rescue? The fear, hyperventilating breathing and sheer terror is not only borderline horrific, it has landed some on emergency admission at hospital wards or worst, de@d.

This is the experience of some individuals who  got stuck in an elevator for hours a few days ago. It did not happen in just any area of Lagos but, Banana Island. Yes, a high rise apartment in the poshest billionaire enclave in Lagos even Africa, experienced that.

If that happened there with all the expense hitech installations and security measures in those Banana Island high rise luxury towers, who knows what tenants in lesser affluent areas of Lagos are enduring daily.

Swiftly, the Lagos state government throug the Director-General and CEO of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, directed a comprehensive certification and registration of all elevators in Lagos state by March 31. Failure to do this will attract stuff penalties like sealing the property and declaring it unfit for safe habitation..
