This is one icon of the 80s and 90s. She looks good and fit as ever, but to those who knew her from waaaaay back, she looks unrecognizable.
Apart from hailing from a famous music dynasty, she branched out on her own, in spite of her family's attempts to keep her shielded from the lure of the music industry.
Being the last child among ten kids, she was the proverbial baby of the family that everyone doted on, unofficially, she had nine siblings, her mom and dad, bring protective of her and trying to steer her away from the klieglights after a brief stint on a TV show in her childhood.
But, feisty she was. Determined she was. Fiercely independent she was and still is. She overruled them.all, launched a music career and became a globally renowned star in her own right, distinct from her family's household name. Her hit song Control alluded to this emancipation struggle. What Have You Done For Me Lately?, That's The Way Love Goes, Got Till It's Gone, Runaway, etc. were songs of hers that shaped the 80s and 90s for many music lovers of that era.
Billboard crowned her as the second most successful artist of the 1990s decade in the US. She won five Grammy awards, eleven Billboard Music Awards, eleven American Music Awards, a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2018, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also, she holds five Guinness Worked Records. She is one of the commercially success artistes of the 1899s with over 100 million album sales.
Apart from her musical success, she was a fashion icon and sex symbol. So many ladies of her generation copied her dressing, hairstyles and overall image.
Her famous washboard abs (stomach and waist) was the envy of the world. Many women desired same body shape men literally drooled over it. It featured prominently in her pictures and image in the 1990s, that's the era when she cemented her place in marble as a sex symbol. Because of this, print posters of this musical powerhouse sells like hot akara bean cake round the world.
And she's still hot, doing deals and maximizing her worth. Just yesterday, she snnounced a new administration deal with Believe Music Publishing that will bring her entire music catalogue under the company’s authority.
