There are some people who think that State Visits are sheer waste of time and resources because of the time and energy expenses in making this happen , and the huge cost it always incur mostly for the visiting state. Oftentimes, the visiting country must necessarily travel on such State Visits with a large contingent of government officials.
It is not a mere jamboree, but needful in order to initiate, expedite action or conclude business and economic, security, tech and innovation agreements more efficiently. If otherwise, such may take longer times to conclude or, might eventually be stillborn.
Nigeria just concluded a State Visit to UK. Another benefit of the visit is in the education sector.
For years, Nigerians have had to send their children thousands of miles away to UK in search of quality education.
But now, that will change. Nigeria is advancing a major partnership with Coventry University to bring UK degrees to Nigeria.
Eith this, Nigerian students will be able to earn fully accredited UK degrees but at temarkably lower costs, without leaving the shores of the country.
The minister of education, Tunji Alausa, said, "we want Nigerian parents to enjoy having their children at home, while still receiving a world-class UK education."
The plan is not mere paperwork, action is already being taken. The proposed campus is in Alaro City, Lagos. "It will offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes across STEMM, Business, and TVET," the minister said. Admissions are expected between the third and fourth quarter of 2026. Thatanytime from July to December 2o26. This takeoff date however, is subject to final approvals.
Alausa said, "Beyond access, this is about building Nigeria’s human capital (by) developing the skills, talent, and workforce needed to drive innovation, productivity, and long-term national growth."
As Alausa declared, "We are bringing global opportunity home, where it belongs!
So, the huge travel costs in Nigeria s State Visit to UK has more impactful gains far outweighing money spent on the expenses of the delegation..
