If you do not have a personal car and hate riding public transportation, you might need to start making contingency plans especially ahead of the approaching Eid El Fitri end of Ramadan festival coming up mid week.

Ride hailing services debuted in Nigeria over ten years and since then, many have come to rely on it as alternative mode of transportation to those who want comfort and detest public transportation for its inconvenience or slower pace in making one get ti appointments and events but do not have personal cars. Even some who have personal cars also employ the services if this sector for various reasons occasionally too.

But, the drivers of these ride-hailing cabs are talking tough. The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) Lagos State Chapter, has mandated drivers to log off major ride-hailing platforms, including Uber, Bolt, inDrive and Lagride between March 16 and March 18.

.Public Relations Officer of the union, Steven Iwindoye, said this strike action became needful because drivers are struggling to make profis due to increase in fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, inflation and other living expenses. Yet, the percentage they must compulsorily remit to these ride-hailing platforms have remained largely unchanged.

Checks on some of these apps reveal a scarcity of drivers on these apps in Lagos. Churchgoers and Muslim faithfuls who wanted to go to church and asalatul prayers respectively this morning could barely get any positive response as their orders were not taken. Drivers have logged out.

Hope this issue can be resolved soonest. Or else movement during the Eid celebration in Lagos would be negatively affected.
